Latest information

This section of the Prince Rupert LNG Project website provides regularly updated information on regulatory filings, project milestones and community outreach activities.

Submission of Project Description

A Project Description relating to the project has been submitted to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) and the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office (BCEAO).  The Project Description provides detailed information on the proposed LNG facility, including regulatory requirements, potential effects and our active engagement and consultation with First Nations, local communities and other stakeholder groups.

BG Group is seeking approval under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 and an environmental certificate under the BC Environmental Assessment Act and we are asking the two regulatory agencies to reach agreement on a harmonized process led by CEAA.

Authorization of NEB Export licence

Prince Rupert LNG Exports Limited, a BG Group company, received authorization from the National Energy Board in March 2014 to export LNG from the proposed facility on Ridley Island.  It is BG Group’s position that the natural gas proposed for export is surplus to Canadian requirements and that the market for the gas is readily available.

Additional regulatory approvals

BG Group will be working with the CEAA and the BCEAO on the environmental permitting process.  Other key permits for the proposed project include:

•        Construction permits and facility regulation with the BC Oil & Gas Commission

•        Other approvals and permits through the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Major Projects Management Office

More information will be provided as BG Group progresses through the regulatory approvals process.
